UBUD, BALI – January 1, 2010;The BaliSpirit Festival and The Australia Indonesia Institute (AII) is proud to announce the return of World famous Australian organic dance music artist Ganga Giri to Bali. Giri will work with Pak Nyoman Windha, the leader of Bali’s most contemporary Bamboo Gamelan orchestra, as well as other talented Balinese musicians. This year’s International Music Collaboration project between Ganga Giri and Pak Windha is made possible from the support of AII and will fuse the ancient sounds of Australia’s Didgeridoo and Bali’s Jegog (bamboo gamelan) with cutting‐edge dance beats and live percussion. These collaborative compositions will be presented as a headlining performance during the 2010 BaliSpirit Festival held from March 31 through April 4. Festival Co-Founder and Music Director, Robert Weber says, “Indonesian art and culture has such diversity and richness, yet remains somewhat a mystery to the global audience. One of the missions of BaliSpirit Festival is to help increase appreciation of Indonesia’s creative culture by paring local artists with international peers, creating contemporary works that open doors to new audiences.” BaliSpirit Festival brings to Bali a wealth of talented and respected creative masters from around the world, mixing vibrant nights of World Music Concerts with daytime workshops of yoga, dance and music. About Ganga Giri Hailing from Australia, Ganga Giri weds ancient instrumentation with modern production to create tribal dance music at its finest. Deeply inspired by the sacredness of Australia’s land and how that feeling can be expressed through the didgeridoo, he has become an ambassador for his country, gaining the respect of Aboriginal Didgeridoo (yidaki) players and offering audiences a reflection of contemporary multicultural Australia. Ganga Giri's music is widely and wildly appreciated by music lovers around the globe including Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, United States and Canada, it is a truly unforgettable organic dance music experience acclaimed by audiences worldwide. About I Nyoman Windha Born at Banjar Kutri, Singapadu, Gianyar, Bali, I Nyoman Windha is one of the leading musicians and contemporary composers of Balinese Gamelan music. His compositions, such as Puspanjali (1989), have been incorporated into the standard repertoire of Balinese performing groups and many have won awards at Bali's annual Gamelan Competition. A graduate of the National Institute of Arts (ISI) in Denpasar, Bali, Windha has been a member of the faculty since 1985. He has traveled and taught extensively around the world.
