In Ubud, in the "heart" of Bali, there's a wide range of welcoming Bali nightlife, reflecting the melting pot of visitors and locals in this easy going, "spiritual" place. It's no coincidence that many of Bali's best musicians are born here.
The relaxed life of the spiritual seeker, the ex-pat and the holiday-maker extends to the Bali nightlife each evening. There are always a few great choices, for winding down after the day. You can listen and dance to great music - even sing yourself! There are riotous, friendly, welcoming Karaoke and Open Mike nights, where local Balinese, visiting Indonesians, ex-pats and tourists contribute their best as "performer" and audience. There are bars, cafes and restaurants with outstanding jazz, salsa, blues and reggae bands, all of them welcoming the frequent guest appearances from visiting international singers and musicians.
But Ubud nightlife can draw you into all sorts of other activities too. How about a top quality Italian or Indonesian art film, a full moon festival ritual, a spiritual Deeksha blessing, Salsa and other dance classes from talented professionals, or a crazy Friday quiz night. People feel at home in Ubud very quickly, because there are so many welcoming places, making you feel part of what's happening.
And lastly, you must see a Balinese cultural performance. Several are on offer all around Ubud, from the Palace on Jalan Raya Ubud and Ubud Cultural Centre on Jl Monkey Forest, to the many exquisite performances in traditional temples in and around the town. Ubud evolved as a tourist destination becauseEuropean painters were mesmerized by the local rice fields by day and the Balinese performances at night. Don't miss them.
