Alam indah (literally beautiful nature) is a medium-size family hotel, run with
a high level of care and integrity. It is located just outside of Ubud on very
lush and quite grounds and has a beautiful swimming pool that overlooks the Wos
River Valley. There are ten rooms offering both twin share and double occupancy
with each their own en-suite bathroom. The yoga room opens onto the garden.
Vegetarian food will be prepared for us, a mixture of top quality traditional
Indonesian and western favourites.

Jean first came to bali in 1987 and moved here permanently with her husband

Balinese culture and the study of yoga. In 1997 they co-founded the Threads of
Life Indonesian Textile Arts Center, a fair trade business with gallery in

culture through the marketing of high-quality traditional textiles. William is

Bayu is trained as a veterinarian and is an activist for the environment and

Your Teacher

Carole Baillargeon
|
|
|
Carole Baillargeon started doing iyengar yoga in Montreal, Canada 19 years ago
after completing her BA in history and literature. She did her formal yoga
teacher training in Sydney in 1990 and taught there for 5 years before moving
to Darwin. Carole holds a Junior Intermediate 3 level Iyengar Teaching
certificate. She has tought interstate, in Singapore, the Seychelles and in the
United States and yoga retreats in Bali in 1996 and 2004.
Bali is the ideal setup for a yoga retreat. Just like yoga, the wonderful
Balinese culture is grounded in Hinduism and it's philosophy embodied in the
Balinese people. It is pure delight to witness their gentle demeanor,
sensitivity and generosity, all qualities that yoga fosters. This is why I have
asked my dear friends (Jean, William and Bayu) to talk to us about the
significance of Balinese rituals and philosophy so we can use their wisdom to
deepen our own understanding and experience of yoga.
My idea for this retreat is to provide a context to literally retreat in
ourselves. So, apart from a few afternoons where there will be time available
to go out and explore Ubud (transport from and to hotel will be provided) or
make a visit to the spa (the hotel will organize this for us), I encourage you
to spend some free time between classes within the spacious, quite hotel
grounds for the time of the retreat. There will be at least two days of
complete silence to help create a mood of reflection and contemplation.
