Retreat Weekend, at COMO Shambhala
6-8 January 2006
In 1962, Thurman became the first American ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk.
In this weekend retreat, Dr. Thurman will lecture on the essence of the
Buddhist insight and path, will speak with participants about their doubts and
concerns. The group will learn together, meditate together, dialogue and chant,
and we will conduct an auspicious fire meditation.

It is Thurman's unique take on the relevance of Buddhism to American culture
and politics, and his wit and creativity in weaving ancient Buddhist wisdom and
popular Western ideals, that make his knowledge entertaining and useful as well
as informative.
In this weekend, Dr. Thurman will lecture on the essence of the Buddhist
insight and path, will speak with participants about their doubts and concerns.
The group will learn, meditate, dialogue and chant together, and we will
conduct an auspicious fire meditation, relating to Manjushri, Bodhisattva deity
of wisdom, to empower us to realize the profound nature of mind and reality.

Yoga & Sound: A Retreat
with Ramanand Patel & Mukesh Desai

Ramanand Patel is the master weaver; combining his depth of knowledge of yoga
and the mechanics of the body, with philosophy in an engaging, humorous style.
He has studied with Sri B.K.S. Iyengar since 1968, and has also been a student
of Vedanta philosophy taught by H.H. Swami Dayananda Saraswati, since 1993.
Ramanand has a civil engineering background and is one of yoga's principal
instructors, well respected as the teacher of teachers. Mukesh Desai is a
master vocalist and a gifted teacher of North Indian classical music and
foremost disciple of world-renowned Pandit Jasraj. His ability to help the
student encounter the inner instrument is unsurpassed.

This exclusive retreat starts on the morning of Tuesday 15 February 2006 and
will run until the evening of Saturday 19 February 2006 with 5 hours of yoga
practice a day. This package allows for an evening of rest upon arrival on
Monday 14 February and departures are on Sunday 20 February.
The daily classes will offer the student an opportunity to go deeper in the
practice of yoga and experience sound at a universal level. Mukesh will teach
subtle aspects of the power of sound as well as provide a backdrop of sound to
Ramanand’s careful instruction in asana, pranayama and philosophy
classes.

Sharon Gannon “Tripura Sundari”
Sharon has studied yoga since 1976 with many teachers around the globe, most
noteworthy being her guru's Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, Swami Nirmalanada, Shri
K. Pattabhi Jois, as well as Swami Shankarananda, and Shyam Das. Sharon brings
a rare blend of scholarly study, artistic pursuits and a highly disciplined
asana and meditation practice to her offerings as a teacher. As a musician,
dancer and producer, Sharon views art as a means for uplifting the soul and her
artistic pursuits seek to enrich the community by being both inspirational and
educational.
